Celebrating 103 Years of Caring for the Monadnock Region

On June 21, 2026, Monadnock Community Hospital proudly celebrates 103 years of caring for our community.

Since opening its doors on June 21, 1923, Monadnock Community Hospital has remained committed to improving the health and well-being of the Monadnock Region. What began as a small community hospital has grown into a trusted healthcare organization providing a wide range of services close to home while remaining rooted in the values that have guided us for more than a century.

The hospital’s story began even before its opening day. In 1917, Robert M. Parmelee donated his summer home to help establish a community hospital for the region, setting in motion a vision that would become a lasting resource for generations of local families.

When the Peterborough Hospital opened in 1923, more than 750 people attended the celebration. In its first month alone, the hospital recorded 4 births, 36 operations, and cared for an average of nine patients each day.

Today, Monadnock Community Hospital continues to evolve to meet the changing needs of our community. From primary and specialty care to emergency services, rehabilitation, behavioral health, cancer care, and advanced diagnostics, our dedicated providers, nurses, staff, volunteers, donors, and community partners work together to ensure high-quality care remains accessible close to home.

As we celebrate 103 years, we are grateful for the generations of patients, employees, volunteers, donors, and community members who have helped shape our history. Your trust and support continue to inspire our mission and guide our future.

Thank you for being part of our story.

Here’s to 103 years of caring for our community and moving care forward together.
