Community Hospital (MCH). Mary, an 86-year-old former nurse, initially began volunteering after a 50-year career at the hospital, inspired by her mother who also worked there as a nurse. She now contributes primarily to the hospital's human resources department, welcoming new employees and fostering a supportive community. Senator Hassan praises Mary's dedication and her embodiment of the "Granite State spirit" - a commitment to service and making a difference regardless of age. Mary's story highlights the positive impact individuals can have through volunteering and community involvement. Their mission to optimize the health, well-being and independence for community members is ongoing and expanding daily. CVTC is excited to strengthen services and is seeking community support in the form of drivers for their organization through the introduction of the CVTC New Driver Challenge. While CVTC has made remarkable progress, they are facing a challenge. To meet their goals and serve the community even better, they need more volunteer drivers. Their New Driver Challenge aims to recruit ten new drivers by the end of this year. Currently, CVTC has 65 drivers, with an average of 55 actively serving the community each month. In 2023, they have provided an average of 3,600 rides, approximately 11 rides per day. However, some trips remain unfulfilled due to various reasons, including a lack of available drivers. In 2022, 14% of rides went uncompleted, and the year-end projection for 2023 is approximately 400 rides not completed which equals 11.5%, highlighting the critical need for additional drivers. In 2023, CVTC is projected to drive over 130,000 miles, an impressive feat that showcases the significant impact of their services on the community. If you're wondering why you should become a CVTC volunteer driver, the answer lies in the benefits and the profound sense of community you'll experience. Providers from Antrim Fire and Ambulance, Dublin Fire Department, Francestown Fire Department, Greenfield Fire Department, Hancock Fire Department, Jaffrey Fire Department, Jaffrey-Rindge Memorial Ambulance, New Ipswich Fire Department, Peterborough Fire and Rescue, Rindge Fire Department, Souhegan Valley Ambulance, and Temple Fire Department attended the evening’s event at the Monadnock Country Club, where they were honored as vital members of the community. Doctors, physician assistants, and nurses from the MCH Emergency Department were there as well to celebrate their colleagues and friends. Cyndee McGuire, president and CEO of Monadnock Community Hospital, recognized all of the hard work the local EMS providers do every day. She quoted Fred Rogers from Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood by saying “Fred Rogers is famous for his advice, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’ I look out tonight at a sea of helpers. You are often first on the scene to care for people in their greatest time of need. The dedication you have for our neighbors and loved ones is incredibly admirable and we are lucky to have you all as a part of our MCH Family and our community.” Lauren Morton, Physician Assistant, and a leader in the MCH Emergency Room, thanked everyone for their tireless efforts and for continually giving so much of themselves to help the lives of others. She then had the privilege of presenting the 2023 EMS Lifetime Achievement Award to New Ipswich Fire Department’s Chief Meredith Lund. Chief Lund, who is soon retiring after over 30 years of service to our community, moved up the ranks in this male dominated profession. She started her career with Souhegan Valley Ambulance Service and later became the first female on the New Ipswich Fire Department team. In 2016 she was voted in as the Chief becoming one of only four female Fire Chiefs in the state of New Hampshire and the first in New Ipswich. Chief Lund was surprised and moved by this award and she presented an inspiring acceptance speech with a brief overview of her career. She shared that she is retiring to spend more time with her grandchildren and to travel the country as she continues her work fighting wildfires. She thanked all of her colleagues and friends in the room, some of whom she taught when she was an instructor with the NH Fire Academy & EMS, while others she began her training with in the early 1990s and has been friends with ever since. The Annual EMS Recognition event was the first one held since 2019 (before the pandemic) and Monadnock Community Hospital was pleased to be able to honor the community Emergency Medical Services this way. One of those products (preservative-free methylprednisolone acetate) , produced in three lots, has been linked to a national meningitis outbreak. None of the NECC’s medication directly linked to the meningitis outbreak has ever been utilized here at MCH. Monadnock Community Hospital has an excellent track record of safety with our patients. Prior to the FDA alert, MCH proactively removed all products from use that came from New England Compounding Center. MCH’s highest priority is the safety of our patients and we are fully and proactively engaged in this effort. Beyond those medications directly linked to cases of meningitis, the FDA, on October 15th, advised hospitals across the US to contact patients that receivedany injectable drug from the NECC produced after May 21st, 2012 to see if they have experienced any unusual symptoms or reactions. MCH patients who have received any of these injectable drugs from the NECC will be contacted and given specific instructions to assist us in gathering patient information as we assist the FDA in their data collection. To date, the FDA has not been able to confirm any additional cases of infection have been caused by NECC products beyond the original product directly linked to the meningitis outbreak. Again, the product linked to meningitis from the NECC has never been used here at MCH. Stetzer, D.O., F.A.C.O.O.G, an obstetrician at Monadnock OB/GYN, was recently named one of New Hampshire’s Top Doctors for 2012 in a reader survey conducted by New Hampshire Magazine and featured in the magazine’s April 2012 issue. The magazine’s Top Doctors list reflects the opinions of New Hampshire patients who are polled annually and asked to recommend the best caregivers in a variety of specialties. “I am deeply honored to receive this recognition from my patients,” said Dr. Stetzer. “I know that when it comes to obstetrical care, trust is everything, and that makes this award even more meaningful.” Dr. Stetzer joined the staff of Monadnock OB/GYN in March 2008. Previously, she was in practice with Greene Health Partners in Xenia, Ohio. She holds a B.S. in psychology from the University of Michigan, and received her D.O. degree in May 1997 from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine.
