Honoring Cynthia K. McGuire: A Legacy of Compassionate Leadership at MCH

For twelve years, Cynthia K. McGuire, FACHE, has guided Monadnock Community Hospital with a steady hand, a compassionate heart, and an unwavering commitment to the well-being of our community. As she prepares for retirement at the end of February 2026, MCH reflects with deep appreciation on a leader whose influence has shaped not only the hospital’s direction, but also the lives of countless patients, families, employees, and neighbors across the Monadnock Region.

Cyndee joined MCH in 2014, bringing decades of experience, a clear vision for community-centered healthcare, and a leadership philosophy grounded in the hospital’s values of compassion, collaboration, honesty, and respect. These values were not just expectations for the organization; they were qualities she personally demonstrated every day. From her earliest days in Peterborough, she sought to understand the needs of the community, the strengths of the staff, and the opportunities to strengthen access to high-quality care close to home.

During her tenure, Cyndee oversaw transformative growth across the hospital. Under her leadership, MCH opened new specialty practices including Monadnock Gastroenterology Associates, Monadnock Rheumatology Associates, and Monadnock Cardiology Associates, expanding local access to essential care. She supported the launch of innovative programs, such as the Mobile Integrated Healthcare program, a home-based care model that helps fill gaps for patients who need support beyond the clinic walls. She also championed the reopening of the Healing Arts Gallery after the pandemic and celebrated the hospital’s 100th anniversary alongside staff, volunteers, and community partners.

When the COVID-19 pandemic brought unprecedented uncertainty, Cyndee led with calm resolve and deep compassion. Her steady presence gave staff, patients, and families a sense of stability at a time when the world felt anything but stable. She collaborated with state partners and regional organizations to expand testing, strengthen safety protocols, and support large-scale vaccination efforts that served thousands across the Monadnock Region. Her leadership during this period will remain one of the defining chapters of her service.

Cyndee’s impact has extended well beyond the hospital campus. She was an active statewide leader, chairing the New Hampshire Hospital Association Board and playing key roles in statewide advocacy, rural health initiatives, and leadership forums. Her ability to create meaningful partnerships helped elevate the voices of rural hospitals and advance policies that strengthen care for small communities.

No matter how broad her influence has grown, Cyndee has always returned to the heart of her work: the people. She has a gift for making others feel valued and heard. Her encouragement has helped staff grow into new roles, her empathy shaped a more supportive workplace culture, and her patient-centered focus has reminded the entire organization of the mission that guides every decision: to do what is best for the patient.

As Cyndee shared in her retirement message, her years at MCH have been “one of the greatest joys of her life.” She leaves the hospital stronger, more resilient, and better prepared for the future. The programs she helped build, the teams she supported, and the community relationships she nurtured will continue to shape MCH for years to come. Her leadership has left an enduring legacy of compassion and purpose, one that will guide our next century of care.
