Why It Matters

Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among women, and one in eight will be diagnosed in their lifetime. Early detection through regular screenings can reduce the risk of death from breast cancer by up to 40%.

Knowing your body and understanding your risk factors empower you to act early — when treatment is most effective. This seminar helps participants gain the knowledge and confidence to take proactive steps for lifelong breast health.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I start getting mammograms?
For most women, mammograms are recommended beginning at age 40. If you have a family history of breast cancer, your provider may suggest starting earlier — typically 10 years before your relative’s age at diagnosis.

Do mammograms expose me to radiation?
Mammograms use a very small amount of radiation — about the same exposure as six weeks of natural background radiation — and the benefits of early detection far outweigh the risks.

Should I still do monthly self-exams?
Routine breast self-exams are no longer recommended, but breast self-awareness is encouraged. Knowing what’s normal for your own body helps you notice changes early and seek care if needed.

What should I do if I find a lump or change?
Contact your healthcare provider promptly. Most breast changes are not cancer, but evaluation and imaging are essential to be sure.
