Having a baby is one of the most significant moments in a family’s life. It can also be overwhelming, especially in those first weeks when you are learning to care for a newborn while recovering yourself.

Monadnock Community Hospital wants to help. Through the Cradle Monadnock program, families in the Greater Monadnock Region receive free, personalized support before and after childbirth, right in the comfort of their own home.

Why This Program Matters

Access to care does not end at the hospital door. The weeks before and after delivery are a critical time for both the birthing individual and the baby. Postpartum health concerns, newborn care questions, and the need for community support often arise after families have returned home, and that is exactly where Cradle Monadnock meets them.

For families in rural New Hampshire, having a trusted healthcare professional come to you can make a real difference. Cradle Monadnock is designed to close those gaps, providing clinical support and human connection when families need it most.

What Is Cradle Monadnock?

Cradle Monadnock is part of MCH’s Mobile Integrated Healthcare (MIH) program. Highly trained, board-certified community paramedics conduct home visits before and after delivery to support the health of both the birthing individual and the newborn.

These visits are not just clinical checkups. They are an opportunity for families to ask questions, get practical guidance, and connect with the resources that are right for them.

What Happens During a Visit?

During prenatal and postpartum home visits, the community paramedic will:

  • Check the health of the birthing individual, including blood pressure monitoring and postpartum depression screening
  • Conduct newborn weight checks and provide guidance on newborn care
  • Evaluate home safety, including safe sleeping practices and age-appropriate development
  • Connect families with community resources and social support networks
  • Offer practical advice and reassurance to help families navigate the early weeks with a newborn

Every family is different, and visits are tailored to meet each family’s individual needs.

A Collaborative Effort

Cradle Monadnock is made possible through a collaboration among several community partners, including Monadnock OB/GYN, The Birthing Suite at MCH, Monadnock Regional Pediatrics, Monadnock Behavioral Health, Monadnock Mobile Integrated Healthcare, The River Center, The Grapevine Family and Community Resource Center, and Home Healthcare Hospice and Community Services.

This network of partners means that if a family needs support beyond what the MIH team provides, there is already a connection in place.
