Each year, New Hampshire Magazine partners with Castle Connolly to recognize the most respected physicians across the state. The award is based on peer nominations and a rigorous review process, honoring doctors known for outstanding care, communication, and clinical excellence. Nationally, only the top 7% of practicing physicians across the country receive this distinction.

Dr. Bartels joined The Medical Eye Center in Peterborough in 2023, bringing experience in advanced cataract surgery, minimally invasive glaucoma treatment, laser procedures, and comprehensive ophthalmic care. She is known for her gentle, thorough approach and her ability to explain complex eye conditions in ways  that are clear, reassuring, and easy to understand.

“My passion for ophthalmology began during my very first rotation in medical school. Cataract surgery stood out to me as an intricate, rewarding procedure—and I loved the chance to pair that technical precision with long-term patient relationships.” – Dr. Bartels

Originally from the Midwest, Dr. Bartels earned her medical degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and completed her residency in ophthalmology at Texas Tech University. She is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and affiliated with Monadnock Community Hospital.

“Patients often tell us that what stands out most is the personal attention and care they receive. Our friendly, dedicated staff, combined with modern technology and a convenient location, makes a real difference in their overall experience.” – Dr. Bartels

At The Medical Eye Center, Dr. Bartels works alongside a dedicated team to address a wide range of vision and eye health concerns, from diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma to dry eye and macular degeneration. The team also provides cosmetic and reconstructive eyelid procedures.

“One lesson I’ll never forget is the importance of truly listening. No one knows their body—or their eyes—better than the patient. That simple truth continues to guide me every day.” – Dr. Bartels

Whether performing surgery or supporting patients through diagnosis and treatment, Dr. Bartels is passionate about making quality eye care accessible and reassuring.

“Taking care of your eyes is an essential part of your overall health. Regular eye exams can catch issues early—often before symptoms appear—and make a big difference in long-term outcomes. I always encourage patients to prioritize their vision just as they would any other part of their wellness.” – Dr. Bartels

Dr. Bartels’ recognition as a Top Doctor is a reflection of her skill, compassion, and collaborative spirit. Monadnock Community Hospital is proud to celebrate her contributions to advancing eye care —and her role in helping patients across our region see more clearly, comfortably, and confidently.
