b'Blood Clot Prevention Your surgeon may prescribe one or more measures to prevent blood clots. These may include medications such as: Warfarin, Heparin, or Aspirin.Warning signs of blood clots: oIncreasing pain in your calf. oTenderness or redness above or below your knee oNew or increased swelling in your calf, ankle, and/or foot. oShortness of breath.If any questions arise please call the MOA office at603-924-2144, contact the on-call Orthopeadic clinician via the MCH switchboard, or go to the ER. Infection Prevention You will be given antibiotics before the start of your surgery and these will be continued for about 24 hours afterward to prevent infection. o Warning signs of infection:Persistent fever (higher than 100.4 F orally). However, a low grade fever for the first three days in not uncommon. Notify your surgical care team if you have a spiking fever greater than 102.5 F. Shaking or chills. Increased redness, tenderness, or swelling of the wound. Drainage from the surgical incision site. Any drainage after day 5 is of great concern!
