Pain Management- Multimodal Approach (Various pathwaysOpioid Sparing) There will be some pain when you wake up, which is a normal part of healing, but medications will be used to help provide relief. You will also have an ice compression device, called a cryo-cuff, placed on your shoulder to help control pain and swelling. Medication options include opioids, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and local anesthetics. Your doctor may use a combination of these medications to improve pain relief. oCaution should be used when taking opioids, as they are a narcotic and can be addictive, depress respirations, and effect mental status. As soon as your pain begins to improve, stop taking opioids. If your pain does not improve talk to your surgeon.
