[post_content] => On Thursday May 25th 2023, Monadnock Community Hospital had the pleasure of recognizing the region’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS) providers in celebration of National EMS Week which was from May 21-27. Providers from Antrim Fire and Ambulance, Dublin Fire Department, Francestown Fire Department, Greenfield Fire Department, Hancock Fire Department, Jaffrey Fire Department, Jaffrey-Rindge Memorial Ambulance, New Ipswich Fire Department, Peterborough Fire and Rescue, Rindge Fire Department, Souhegan Valley Ambulance, and Temple Fire Department attended the evening’s event at the Monadnock Country Club, where they were honored as vital members of the community. Doctors, physician assistants, and nurses from the MCH Emergency Department were there as well to celebrate their colleagues and friends.
Cyndee McGuire, president and CEO of Monadnock Community Hospital, recognized all of the hard work the local EMS providers do every day. She quoted Fred Rogers from Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood by saying “Fred Rogers is famous for his advice, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’ I look out tonight at a sea of helpers. You are often first on the scene to care for people in their greatest time of need. The dedication you have for our neighbors and loved ones is incredibly admirable and we are lucky to have you all as a part of our MCH Family and our community.”
Lauren Morton, Physician Assistant, and a leader in the MCH Emergency Room, thanked everyone for their tireless efforts and for continually giving so much of themselves to help the lives of others. She then had the privilege of presenting the 2023 EMS Lifetime Achievement Award to New Ipswich Fire Department’s Chief Meredith Lund.
Chief Lund, who is soon retiring after over 30 years of service to our community, moved up the ranks in this male dominated profession. She started her career with Souhegan Valley Ambulance Service and later became the first female on the New Ipswich Fire Department team. In 2016 she was voted in as the Chief becoming one of only four female Fire Chiefs in the state of New Hampshire and the first in New Ipswich. Chief Lund was surprised and moved by this award and she presented an inspiring acceptance speech with a brief overview of her career. She shared that she is retiring to spend more time with her grandchildren and to travel the country as she continues her work fighting wildfires. She thanked all of her colleagues and friends in the room, some of whom she taught when she was an instructor with the NH Fire Academy & EMS, while others she began her training with in the early 1990s and has been friends with ever since.
The Annual EMS Recognition event was the first one held since 2019 (before the pandemic) and Monadnock Community Hospital was pleased to be able to honor the community Emergency Medical Services this way.

Monadnock Community Hospital (MCH) has partnered with local agencies and individuals to form Be the Change—Behavioral Health Task Force, a team dedicated to enhancing community education and raising awareness about behavioral health needs, including mental health and substance use, within our community.
This vital group's initiatives include:
Organizing and conducting community education programs
Building peer support groups
Creating a comprehensive resource guide for the Eastern Monadnock Region
Holding Narcan training sessions to help reverse opioid overdoses
Together, our community continues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those affected by mental health and substance use issues. Let’s continue to work together for a healthier future.

[0] => Due to the increasing demand for mental health and addiction support services, Monadnock Community Hospital (MCH) established the "Be the Change" initiative, a community-based task force committed to providing vital education and resources regarding substance use and mental health to our community. This task force is a collaborative effort, bringing together many essential community partners, including the Peterborough Police Department, local fire departments, schools, resource centers, parents, and individuals in recovery.
"Be the Change" plays a crucial role in the Monadnock Region, offering a wide range of initiatives designed to support individuals and families affected by mental health challenges and substance abuse. In addition to organizing community educational forums that increase awareness and understanding of these issues, the task force provides support-group guides to help residents find the resources they need. Monthly Narcan administration training sessions are also hosted to empower community members with life-saving skills, reflecting our commitment to combating the opioid crisis.
One of the recent achievements of the "Be the Change" task force is the installation of a prescription drug take-back box at the Peterborough Police Department, made possible through the generosity of the 100+ Women Who Care - Peterborough. This secure and accessible take-back box, the first of its kind in the eastern Monadnock region, is available to the public during Police Department business hours. It offers a safe and responsible way to dispose of unused or expired medications, thereby reducing the risk of substance misuse within our community.
At MCH, we understand the importance of addressing mental health and addiction with compassion and collaboration. The "Be the Change" initiative is a result to our dedication to improving the well-being of our community by providing comprehensive support and fostering strong partnerships. We invite everyone in the Monadnock region to participate in our efforts to create a healthier, safer environment for all.
