If you’ve fractured a bone, that’s bad. What’s good is that orthopedic medicine today is very skilled at helping you heal. But there is a catch: You need to have your fracture addressed quickly and effectively to make sure that you heal properly and get back maximum function. At Monadnock Orthopaedic Associates, my colleagues and I are here with comprehensive fracture care from diagnosis to recovery, to set your bones and set you on the proper path to healing.

Here are the basics, from the types of fractures people experience, to what we can do about them:

What are the Types of Fractures?

  • Simple Fractures: Clean breaks in the bone that can be easily realigned and treated.
  • Open Fractures: Fractures where the bone breaks through the skin, requiring more complex treatment.
  • Comminuted Fractures: Fractures where the bone is shattered into multiple pieces, often needing surgical intervention.

How are Fractures Diagnosed and Treated?

  • X-Rays and Imaging: Accurate diagnosis using X-rays and other imaging techniques to determine the extent of the fracture.
  • Non-Surgical Treatment: Options include casting, splinting, and bracing to immobilize the bone and allow it to heal.
  • Surgical Treatment: In cases of severe fractures, surgery may be necessary to realign and stabilize the bone using pins, plates, or screws.

What is Expected Fracture Recovery and Rehabilitation?

  • Follow-Up Care: It is important to attend all regular follow-up appointments with your provider to monitor healing progress and make necessary adjustments to treatment.
  • Physical Therapy: Engaging in physical therapy is very important to regain strength and mobility in the affected limb.

If you experience a fracture, getting the right care right away can mean the difference between optimal healing with minimal complications, and a break that doesn’t heal right, leaving long-term pain or mobility issues. That’s why we’re here. Our team at Monadnock Orthopaedic Associates is committed to providing the highest level of care to help you recover fully, so you can get back to the things you love and the life you want.
