In September 2021, MCH concluded their Community Health Needs Assessment, which is completed every three years, to identify and prioritize the health-related needs in MCH’s Primary Service Area.

Through conducting surveys, holding focus groups with community members, and meeting with local social and human services agencies, it was determined that the top five greatest healthcare needs in our community are:

  1. Affordable Healthcare Services
  2. Depression and Anxiety Treatment Services
  3. Early Intervention for Substance Misuse
  4. Crisis Care Programs for Mental Health
  5. Domestic Violence Resources

Following the Assessment, an Implementation Plan is also completed by MCH to address top-priority needs. Through the years, thanks to this process, various initiatives and programs have been implemented.

In 2021, MCH developed a new program, Mobile Integrated Health, to address “Access to Care for High-Need Populations (disabled, seniors, etc.)” which was identified in the 2018 Assessment as a top need.

Other initiatives that came from past Community Health Needs Assessments include a 24/7 Crisis Support program, as well as a strong partnership with Reality Check, our community’s addiction, treatment, and recovery support organization. Reality Check provides us access to a Recovery Coach for patients suffering from Substance Misuse Disorder to aid in their sobriety. Both of these initiatives address the 2018 needs for more access to Substance Misuse and Behavioral Health Services.

MCH remains committed to continuing, enhancing, and creating programs and services that will benefit our patients and community.

Community Benefits at MCH

At Monadnock Community Hospital (MCH), our mission to provide exceptional healthcare extends far beyond the walls of our hospital. We are deeply committed to supporting the well-being of our community, ensuring that everyone has access to the care and resources they need. In 2021, we proudly contributed $14,767,000 in various forms of support, reflecting our dedication to addressing the most pressing health needs in our region.

Subsidized Health Services:
To ensure that essential healthcare services were accessible to all, MCH allocated $8,412,000 to subsidize a wide range of health services. This funding supported programs like cardiac rehabilitation, emergency department services, and behavioral health initiatives, making sure that financial barriers did not prevent anyone from receiving necessary care.

Charity Care:
Through our Financial Assistance Program, we provided $646,000 in charity care to individuals and families facing financial hardships. Our commitment to offering charity care underscores our belief in providing compassionate, dignified care to all members of our community, regardless of their ability to pay.

In-kind Donations:
In addition to direct financial support, MCH contributed $258,000 in in-kind donations. These resources, which included the use of conference rooms, EMT training, and other valuable services, strengthened our partnerships with local organizations and enhanced the overall health infrastructure in our community.

Community Programs:
MCH also invested $204,000 in community programs such as Monadnock Healthy Teeth and Parent Support Services. These initiatives are designed to promote health education and preventive care, empowering individuals and families to take charge of their health and well-being.

Public Programs:
Recognizing the importance of public health programs, MCH addressed the Medicaid and Medicare shortfall by providing $5,247,000 in funding. This support ensured that critical public health services remained available and effective for all community members, particularly those most in need.

At MCH, we believe in the power of community and the importance of working together to build a healthier future. Our contributions in 2021 reflect our unwavering commitment to making a meaningful impact in the lives of those we serve. By continuing to collaborate with our community, we strive to enhance the well-being of everyone in the Monadnock Region and beyond. Together, we can achieve remarkable progress and ensure that our community remains strong, healthy, and vibrant for years to come.
