In 1919, Robert Parmelee donated his summer home, which began our legacy as the community hospital of the Monadnock Region. The original leaders had a vision to create a local hospital that was “a place where doctors and nurses and the best equipment science can produce are gathered together to bring relief to those who are suffering.” This quote from the Transcript on June 21, 1923, the day the hospital opened its doors to the public, still rings true today. With so many changes and tremendous growth over the years, we are honored to celebrate our first centennial with you. It takes a dedicated community to build a hospital and so many have contributed to our success over the years. Donors, volunteers, medical staff, employees, trustees, patients, first responders, and many more have added to the strength of Monadnock Community Hospital, making it one of the best small hospitals in New England. While the people, practices, and technology may have changed, our commitment to care for our community remains our focus and we look forward to being here for you in our second century. With the generous support from individuals like you, we have been able to expand services ranging from emergency care, radiology, and laboratory services, to orthopaedics and so much more. The engagement from our devoted employees and thousands of supporters through the years can be seen woven through the fabric of our beloved hospital’s history. As we celebrate our past and look to our future, we are embracing the possibilities it will hold. Jackson, on the cover of this year’s report, was born here and he and his family receive their care from our hospital. We know that caring for Jackson’s generation is essential as they are the future of Monadnock Community Hospital and are the healthcare professionals of tomorrow. Together, we will continue our mission of improving the health and well-being of our community and look forward to celebrating this milestone year with you.
