CMC and Monadnock Practices named to Harvard Pilgrim Health Care’s Physician Group Honor Roll
(Manchester & Peterborough, NH) – GraniteOne Health is pleased to announce that members Catholic Medical Center (CMC) Physician Practice Associates and Monadnock Community Hospital (MCH) Physicians have been named to Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Physician Group Honor Roll. CMC and MCH are the only New Hampshire organizations on the 16th annual list.
The Honor Roll reflects exceptional performance in areas of adult and pediatric acute, chronic, and preventative care. Harvard Pilgrim identifies these physician groups by measuring 15 different metrics against national standards from the Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS®). Examples include appropriate treatment for children with upper respiratory infection, including comprehensive diabetes care, and breast cancer screening. Physician groups that score in the top quartile are named to the Honor Roll.
“Primary care is one of the most important and lasting services a healthcare organization can deliver,” says Dr. Keith Stahl, Executive Medical Director for CMC Primary Care and GraniteOne Health Trustee. “When forming GraniteOne, it was clear that Monadnock shares CMC’s commitment to the highest-quality primary care experience. The HPHC Physician Group Honor Roll affirms that we are delivering on that commitment.”
“Primary care forms the foundation from which all of healthcare is built,” says Dr. Luc Shippee, Medical Director for Monadnock Health Partners at MCH. “This recognition is a testimony to our shared values in promoting outstanding patient-clinician relationships and reflects the hard work and dedication of our primary care team. Together, we truly are forming a health system that’s greater than the sum of its parts.”
CMC Primary Care practices are located throughout the greater Manchester area, while Monadnock Community Hospital practices serve patients in the Monadnock region. To find a practice, visit graniteonehealth.org/find-a-provider.

We are excited to move forward in ensuring quality health care stays close to home.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
July 6, 2016
CONTACTS:
Lauren Collins‐Cline, Catholic Medical Center (603)663‐8164, lcollin1@cmc‐nh.org
Monika O’Clair, Huggins Hospital (603)515‐2088, moclair@hugginshospital.org
Phil McFarland, Monadnock Community Hospital (603)924‐4653, Philip.McFarland@mchmail.org
Advancing their intent to provide high‐quality and value‐based health care for their
communities, Catholic Medical Center (CMC), Huggins Hospital, and Monadnock Community
Hospital are submitting a filing with the Charitable Trusts Unit of the New Hampshire Attorney
General’s Office detailing the terms of their affiliation. This filing comes after an extensive
period of due diligence, approval of the agreement by all three hospital boards, and, with
respect to CMC, approval of the Roman Catholic Bishop of Manchester.
CMC previously announced a Letter of Intent (LOI) to affiliate with Huggins Hospital in
November, 2015 and an LOI with Monadnock Community Hospital in January, 2016. The
agreement being reviewed by regulators will result in a more integrated healthcare system to
serve the hospitals’ respective communities.
This New Hampshire‐based, New Hampshire‐focused collaboration allows us to effectively use our resources and expertise to improve quality, cost, and access to health care.
“This New Hampshire‐based, New Hampshire‐focused collaboration allows us to effectively use
our resources and expertise to improve quality, cost, and access to health care,” said Dr. Joseph
Pepe, President & CEO of Catholic Medical Center. “It builds on the long and successful existing
clinical relationships between CMC and these two, strong critical access hospitals.”
The affiliation is not an acquisition as no assets will be exchanged, nor is it a merger as staffs
and physicians will continue to work for their respective hospitals. The affiliation allows for
Huggins and Monadnock Community Hospitals to forge stronger ties in clinical partnerships
with CMC, as well as leverage their resources to build economies of scale. The goals of this
affiliation include providing quality care at a lower cost with added services and a seamless
patient experience.
“We are excited to move forward in ensuring quality health care stays close to home,” said
Jeremy Roberge, Interim President & CEO of Huggins Hospital. “CMC and Huggins Hospital have
been working together for many years to improve access to cardiology and vascular care for our
patients and, in the last month, have begun collaborating on shared hospitalists.”
Similar collaborations have also existed for years between CMC and Monadnock Community
Hospital (MCH), which also work together on neurology and laboratory services. “We have
successfully met the healthcare needs of the Monadnock region for 90 years,” said Cynthia
McGuire, President & CEO of MCH. “This affiliation is a logical and strategic step to ensure that
access to local, high‐quality health care continues and grows for many years to come.”
Under the terms of the Affiliation Agreement, CMC, Huggins, and MCH will continue to operate
with assets and liabilities remaining unchanged. Huggins and MCH will continue to be secular,
non‐profit community hospitals, and CMC will continue operating as a Catholic, non‐profit
acute healthcare system. The hospitals will maintain separate Boards as well as their respective
charitable missions, values and traditions. Philanthropic gifts given to each hospital will be used
to benefit their local community. Hospitals’ names, logos, and staff will remain. An overarching
non‐profit system parent called GraniteOne Health will ensure strategic direction and initiatives
for the affiliated system.
The regulatory approval process will include further opportunities for comment by the general
public and stakeholders of the three hospitals. Information is available through each hospital’s
website, as well as on the website for GraniteOne Health (www.graniteonehealth.org). It is
expected the affiliation will be approved and fully executed by the end of the year.

Sharing a common commitment to providing high quality and value-based care for the benefit of their communities and building upon the foundation of a long history of collaboration together, Catholic Medical Center (“CMC”) and Monadnock Community Hospital (“MCH”) have signed a non-binding Letter of Intent (“LOI”) to explore an affiliation which will result in a more fully integrated, New Hampshire-based healthcare system.
“CMC and MCH have been working together for many years to improve access to cardiology and vascular care to patients in the Monadnock region. More recently, we have expanded our clinical partnership with CMC to include neurology and have been sharing hospitalists and laboratory services” said Cynthia McGuire, President & CEO of MCH.
“This next step of organizational collaboration will enable greater utilization of collective resources and expertise which will improve the quality, cost and access to care as well as enhance overall patient satisfaction” said Dr. Joseph Pepe, President & CEO of CMC.
In early 2015 MCH requested proposals from numerous healthcare organizations as potential partners for affiliation. CMC was viewed as the best organization to affiliate with because past experiences and partnerships were positive and demonstrate a record of shared culture, values and successful collaboration.
Maintaining each organization’s respective charitable missions, values and traditions is also a priority. “The LOI proposes a structure which will permit CMC and MCH to each operate much in the same way that they have been operating,” explains Dr. Pepe. “MCH will continue operating as a secular, non-profit community hospital, and CMC will continue operating as a Catholic, non-profit acute healthcare system.
“We have successfully met the healthcare needs of the Monadnock region for 90 years and we are excited to take the next step to ensure we are well-positioned to keep quality healthcare close to home for years to come,” noted Ms. McGuire.
The next steps in the affiliation process include the negotiation of a definitive agreement, a mutual due diligence process, final approval of the respective hospital boards and, with respect to CMC, the approval of the Roman Catholic Bishop of Manchester. There is a state and federal regulatory approval process as well. Throughout this process there will be numerous opportunities for comment by the general public and stakeholders of both hospitals. CMC and MCH are working diligently to complete the affiliation within the next 12 months.
ABOUT CMC: CMC is 330-bed acute care hospital located in Manchester, New Hampshire with 2,500 employees and over 700 physicians, specialists and other providers working together to serve the health care needs of patients in Manchester and throughout New Hampshire. CMC is home to the nationally recognized New England Heart & Vascular Institute and is a Truven Analytics “Top 50 in the Nation” Cardiovascular Hospital. CMC was also named the 2015 Healthcare Business of the Year by Business NH Magazine.
Monadnock Community Hospital is a 25-bed Critical Access Hospital offering medical, surgical and Intensive Care, Obstetrics, Pediatrics, and Mental Health services. In addition, a wide variety of outpatient services are available, including an extensive Primary Care Network, Wellness, Cardiac and Physical Rehabilitation Services, 24-hour Emergency Care, a fully equipped laboratory and an extensive Radiology department. MCH was named among the “Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals in the US” by ivantagehealth.com, April 2015.

[post_content] => Monadnock Community Hospital: Nitrous oxide now available in Peterborough maternity ward
By Dave Anderson Monadnock Ledger-Transcript
Monday, November 4, 2013
(Published in print: Tuesday, November 5, 2013)
For more than 20 years, women giving birth in Canada, western Europe and Australia have had the option of using nitrous oxide to help them cope with pain during labor. But in the United States, where nitrous oxide is frequently used in dental offices, it has not been available in delivery rooms. But that’s about to change, and Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough is leading the way, the first hospital in New England and one of just a few in the country that has nitrous oxide equipment in its maternity unit.
“No one treatment is right for everybody,” says Dr. Fletcher Wilson, the chief of obstetrics at MCH. “The more options available, the better off you’ll be. [Nitrous oxide] is used by the majority of the world. Why aren’t we doing it?”
The hospital recently purchased two Pro Nox nitrous oxide delivery systems, which are relatively new to the U.S. market and have been approved by the Food and Drug Administration. The units, which can be wheeled into a birthing room, include both a mask and a mouthpiece, either of which can be used by the patient to breathe in a 50/50 mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen.

[post_content] => On October 6th New England Compounding Pharmacy (NECC), announced a recall of all of its products that were compounded at and distributed from its facility in Framingham, Massachusetts. One of those products (preservative-free methylprednisolone acetate), produced in three lots, has been linked to a national meningitis outbreak. None of the NECC’s medication directly linked to the meningitis outbreak has ever been utilized here at MCH. Monadnock Community Hospital has an excellent track record of safety with our patients. Prior to the FDA alert, MCH proactively removed all products from use that came from New England Compounding Center.MCH’s highest priority is the safety of our patients and we are fully and proactively engaged in this effort. Beyond those medications directly linked to cases of meningitis, the FDA, on October 15th, advised hospitals across the US to contact patients that receivedany injectable drug from the NECC produced after May 21st, 2012 to see if they have experienced any unusual symptoms or reactions. MCH patients who have received any of these injectable drugs from the NECC will be contacted and given specific instructions to assist us in gathering patient information as we assist the FDA in their data collection. To date, the FDA has not been able to confirm any additional cases of infection have been caused by NECC products beyond the original product directly linked to the meningitis outbreak. Again, the product linked to meningitis from the NECC has never been used here at MCH.Download our Fungal Meningitis FAQs document (PDF)

Child Welfare Agency Creates Annual Award in His Honor
Peterborough – On Wednesday, May 23rd, Dr. Fletcher Wilson of Monadnock OB/GYN was the honored recipient of a humanitarian award presented at an event held at the Cambridge Innovation Center, Cambridge, Massachusetts. The evening was hosted by Wide Horizons For Children (WHFC), a child welfare agency committed to family placement for orphaned and at-risk children through adoption, child sponsorship, and humanitarian aid. WHFC created the “Wilson Award,” their first humanitarian award, and named it in honor of Dr. Wilson, to recognize his dedication, passion, and commitment to help save the lives of countless women and children in Ethiopia.
In 2007, Dr. Wilson adopted his daughter, Laramie, from Ethiopia. 4 years later, he contacted WHFC, offering his surgical skills and specialty in obstetrics and gynecology to help women survive childbirth in an area where 1 out of every 14 women dies in childbirth. “We are so grateful for Dr. Wilson and his tireless work developing the Wide Horizons For Children Medical Mission program,” notes Peter Leppanen, President and CEO of WHFC. “He has led teams of talented professionals to hospitals across Ethiopia, working with a population with no access to healthcare of any kind. In addition, he acted as our professional consultant on our hospital project in Leku, in the south of Ethiopia, and developed an integrated hospital and community based program that will save thousands of lives.”
Monadnock OBGYN has been providing obstetrical and gynecologic care in the Peterborough area at Monadnock Community Hospital since 1973. Their practice extends from Keene to Peterborough, Milford and Nashua. Their goal is to provide patients with the best possible medical care in a professional, sensitive, and supportive environment. Learn more at www.monadnockobgyn.com.
Wide Horizons For Children (WHFC) has served children in desperate need around the world for nearly 40 years, helping to place more than 12,000 children from 60 countries with adoptive families and allocating more than $13 million in humanitarian aid. They work with trusted partners around the world, and offer long-standing adoption programs in Asia, Africa, Latin America, Russia and the US. Learn more at www.whfc.org.

[post_content] => Peterborough, NH – Pamela A. Stetzer, D.O., F.A.C.O.O.G, an obstetrician at Monadnock OB/GYN, was recently named one of New Hampshire’s Top Doctors for 2012 in a reader survey conducted by New Hampshire Magazine and featured in the magazine’s April 2012 issue.
The magazine’s Top Doctors list reflects the opinions of New Hampshire patients who are polled annually and asked to recommend the best caregivers in a variety of specialties.
“I am deeply honored to receive this recognition from my patients,” said Dr. Stetzer. “I know that when it comes to obstetrical care, trust is everything, and that makes this award even more meaningful.”
Dr. Stetzer joined the staff of Monadnock OB/GYN in March 2008. Previously, she was in practice with Greene Health Partners in Xenia, Ohio.
She holds a B.S. in psychology from the University of Michigan, and received her D.O. degree in May 1997 from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Dr. Stetzer completed her residency at St. John Riverview Hospital in Detroit, followed by her OB/GYN residency at Henry Ford/Horizon Health System in Warren, Michigan where she was chief resident from 2001 – 2002. She holds board certification from the American Osteopathic Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and is also certified in Basic and Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Neonatal Resuscitation. She is a member of the American Osteopathic Association, and the American College of Osteopathic Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
Dr. Stetzer and her husband, Randy have two children, Alec, age 8, and Shaelan, age 6.

[post_content] => Peterborough – Monadnock Community Hospital has resumed normal operations as of Wednesday, 1/25/12 following a decrease in reported cases of gastrointestinal illness by patients and employees. All entryways to the facility are once again open. For the previous 48 hours, MCH had limited the available entrances to the facility in order to greet and educate the public on proper hand hygiene and the use of facemasks within the facility. An initial report of cases with gastrointestinal symptoms had led to that decision on Sunday, 1/22/12.
“The reported cases of patients and staff with gastrointestinal symptoms have stabilized and decreased,” notes Phil Vuocolo, MD, Chief Medical Officer at MCH. “We will continue to remind visitors about the importance of hand hygiene for the next 24 hours however, all entrances into the facility are again open and business operations are continuing normally. Staff at the hospital will continue to use standard precautions as well as facemasks in clinical areas when treating patients and we will continue to carefully monitor the situation.”
Visitors entering MCH always have the choice of using a facemask if they choose. Those supplies will continue to be made available, per usual. All scheduled appointments are expected to occur.
Monadnock Community Hospital is a 25-bed Critical Access Hospital offering medical, surgical and Intensive Care; Obstetrics; Pediatrics; and Mental Health services. In addition, a wide variety of outpatient services are available, including Pulmonary, Cardiac and Physical Rehabilitation; 24-hour Emergency Care; a fully equipped laboratory; and an extensive Radiology department. MCH is blessed with strong leadership and a dedicated medical community that allows us to meet the ever-changing requirements of today's healthcare environment. As that environment changes, MCH is also committed to changing and providing the communities we serve with appropriate and innovative program.
