Preparing for Joint Replacement

Preparing for joint replacement surgery can feel overwhelming, but you are not doing it alone. This page is designed to support you every step of the way, from preparing for surgery to recovering safely at home. You will find clear, practical resources to help you understand your procedure, know what to expect before and after surgery, and feel confident as you return to everyday activities. Our care teams at Monadnock Orthopaedic Associates and Monadnock Community Hospital are here to support your recovery and long-term mobility.

Hip Replacement Surgery

Hip replacement surgery is designed to relieve pain and restore mobility when arthritis or joint damage makes everyday movement difficult. During the procedure, damaged bone and cartilage are replaced with durable artificial components that allow the hip to move more smoothly. Our orthopedic team uses minimally invasive techniques whenever possible and works closely with each patient to determine the best approach based on their anatomy, lifestyle, and goals for recovery.

Knee Replacement Surgery

Knee replacement surgery can help reduce chronic pain and stiffness caused by arthritis or joint degeneration. In this procedure, damaged portions of the knee joint are replaced with precisely fitted components that restore alignment and function. Patients often experience improved stability, increased mobility, and the ability to return to activities they enjoy, with personalized recovery planning and support throughout the process.

Shoulder Replacement Surgery

Shoulder replacement surgery can relieve pain and improve range of motion when the joint is severely damaged by arthritis, injury, or rotator cuff conditions. Depending on the patient’s needs, all or part of the shoulder joint may be replaced with specialized implants designed to restore function and stability. Our team carefully evaluates each shoulder to determine the most appropriate surgical option and supports patients through recovery and rehabilitation.

Spine Surgery

Spine surgery may be recommended when chronic neck or back pain, nerve compression, or spinal instability does not improve with nonsurgical treatment. Our orthopedic spine specialists focus on minimally invasive techniques whenever possible to relieve pressure on nerves, reduce pain, and restore stability while protecting surrounding muscles and tissue. Each care plan is personalized, with a strong emphasis on patient education, recovery planning, and long-term mobility.
