b'SURGERY DAY IS FINALLY HERE! The night before and day of surgery, be sure you use your chlorhexidine wash per instructions. Follow your fasting instructions. Bring your walker and blood band. A nurse from the OR will meet with you on the morning of surgery.AnesthesiaAfter admission, you will be evaluated by a member of the anesthesia team. Your surgery may be performed under general or regionalanesthesia: oLocal anesthesia numbs the soft tissue around your knee or your whole leg.oRegional (spinal) anesthesia numbs you below the waist. oGeneral anesthesia puts you to sleep. Your surgeon and anesthesiologist will discuss which anesthetic option is the best for you. Procedure Your procedure will take approximately 2 hours. oInspection of the joint. An incision will be made at the front of the knee and your surgeon will explore the medial, lateral, and patellofemoral compartments prior to prepping for joint replacement.Your surgeon will prepare the bone by removing cartilage from the damaged compartments of your knee, then metal implants will be positioned and cemented into place. Finally, a spacer will be placed in between the two metal components to ensure a smooth gliding surface.
