I earned my professional education across several cities, including Buffalo, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, and Baltimore, however I knew I wanted to practice in a small New England community like Peterborough. Even so, making the leap was a big decision after enjoying the comforts of city hospitals, which were always fully-staffed and ready for the unexpected.
It soon became clear I made the right choice. When I arrived in Peterborough, I found that the medical and nursing staff consistently outperformed other hospitals of similar size. Monadnock Community Hospital has been a pillar of support during my career, from approving capital budget requests to revamping the entire maternity suite (1991, and recently May 2015). When I need to consult with an expert in my field I can find them right around the corner in Lebanon, Manchester, and Bedford.
After five years of internship and residency, I arrived in Peterborough, 1988. It is amazing to reflect on the medical experience I have gained during those the years. In 2010, I embarked on my first medical mission to Peru. My wife, Grisel, joined me and served as a translator for Spanish-speaking patients. In 2013, my son Zachary and I went to Guatemala where he helped with translation as well, while I performed gynecologic surgery. Since 2015, I have accompanied a local medical group, traveling to Jamaica, to deliver GYN care to patients in rural clinics remote from typical access to pap smears, annual gynecologic exams. My wife Grisel performs medical assistant support for these visits. (https://pbjtravelingclinic.org/)
I am passionate about sharing my experience with 3rd-year medical students from Geisel Dartmouth Medical School, where I am a Clinical Instructor. I enjoy sharing “pearls” of knowledge that I once learned from my Peterborough mentors, Drs. Brodkin and Seigel, upon arriving in town years ago.
Grisel and I are grateful that we could start a family in such a supportive and energetic community. My boys enjoyed their education in the Conval Public School District. We support locally grown food co-ops, as well as hike and bird the beautiful surroundings.
