Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) is one of the most common heart rhythm disorders, affecting over 6 million Americans and 59 million people worldwide. Left untreated, AFib increases stroke risk fivefold, but early detection and treatment can dramatically improve outcomes. It occurs when the upper chambers of the heart beats irregularly, which can increase the risk of stroke, heart failure, and other complications. Understanding AFib and its symptoms is the first step toward prevention and better heart health.

Join Monadnock Cardiology Associates for Keeping the Beat: Understanding Atrial Fibrillation (AFib), a free educational seminar hosted by Monadnock Community Hospital. This informative session will be presented by Dr. Robert Spencer and Brooke O’Connor, FNP–C, who will explain how AFib develops, how it is diagnosed, and what treatment options are available for patients in the Monadnock region. Dr. Spencer and Brooke. O’Connor bring decades of combined cardiology experience and specialize in comprehensive AFib management, from initial diagnosis through advanced interventional treatments.

During the session, attendees will learn how to:

  • Identify key warning signs: heart palpitations, shortness of breath, fatigue, and chest discomfort
  • Understand risk factors like high blood pressure, sleep apnea, and diabetes
  • Explore treatment options, from medications to minimally invasive procedures
  • Make lifestyle changes that improve heart rhythm and reduce recurrence

You’ll also learn why early detection and ongoing management are essential to living well with AFib.

This seminar is especially valuable if you:

  • Have experienced unexplained heart palpitations or dizziness
  • Have risk factors like high blood pressure, diabetes, or sleep apnea
  • Have a family history of heart disease
  • Are over 65 (AFib risk increases with age)
  • Care for someone diagnosed with AFib

What You’ll Gain:

  • Expert guidance from board-certified cardiologists serving the Monadnock region
  • Actionable strategies for reducing your personal AFib risk
  • Clear understanding of treatment paths—from medications to ablation procedures
  • Confidence in recognizing symptoms that require immediate medical attention
