Reiki is a healing arts technique originated in Japan. Reiki was discovered in Japan by Dr. Usui in the early 1900’s. Reiki can activate the body’s natural ability to heal. Using a gentle hands-on approach, Reiki treats the whole person—body, mind, emotions, and spirit. This may create beneficial effects including a sense of relaxation, a feeling of peace and well-being.
Reiki is non-intrusive and complements medical treatments. “Reiki” (pronounced ‘ray key’) is a Japanese word with two parts: “Rei” means universal consciousness. “Ki” means the life force.
What does Reiki feel like?
Reiki is given through a gentle touch but can be performed without the use of touch. While the client is seated or lying down and fully clothed, the practitioner’s hands are placed along energy centers and pathways on the head, shoulders, upper chest, abdomen, legs and feet. You may feel warmth, coolness, gentle tingling or deep relaxation.
The benefits of Reiki may include...
- Relaxation and stress reduction
- Relief from pain and muscle tension
- Promotes self-healing abilities
- Increased energy
- A heightened sense of well being
- Balancing of emotions
