MCH Welcomes New Surgeon

Peterborough, NH - On January 5th, Dr. Michael Scott Woods will join Monadnock Surgical Associates at Monadnock Community Hospital. As Dr. Stephan Coffman will be returning to Oregon at the end of January,

Dr. Woods will be working with Dr. Edwin S. Menor.

Dr. Woods comes to MCH from St. Vincent's Hospital Surgical Group in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where he practiced general and hepatobiliary-pancreatic surgery. Previous to that he practiced at Woods Surgical Care,PC in Cortez, Colorado. While there, the practice consisted of general surgery with a heavy emphasis in gastrointestinal types of surgical procedures.

In addition to his surgical experience, Dr. Woods has had extensive health care industry experience. He worked for the Joint Commission for Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, did Pharmaceutical Industry Consulting, and was employed by Novartis Pharmaceuticals and the Janssen Research Foundation.

Dr. Woods received his Bachelor of Science in cellular biology, with honors, at the University of Kansas. His Doctor of Medicine was earned at the University of Kansas School of Medicine. He had a visiting Fellowship in the Liver Transplant Unit at Cambridge University in England. His residency in general surgery took place at the University of Kansas-Wichita.

From 1993 to the present, he has been a Diplomat of the American Board of Surgery. For the last twelve years he has been a Fellow, American College of Surgeons, and in May 2008 he received a Master of Medical Management, Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California where he was on the Dean's list.

Dr. woods is licensed to practice medicine in five states, and spent fifteen years in the Medical Corps of the National Guard and United States Army Reserves from which he was honorably discharged in 1999 with the rank of Major.

Dr. Woods brings a wealth of medical knowledge and skills to Monadnock Community Hospital, along with many published books and articles dealing with leadership and development as well as medical and scientific topics.
